Preikestolen or Prekestolen, also known as Preacher's Pulpit or Pulpit Rock, is a remarkable rock formation towering 604m over Lysefjord. The top of the rock is almost flat, about 25m by 25m and offers incredible view to the fjord below.
Despite being a very popular tourist attraction, with around a quarter of a million visitors yearly, the place maintains a sense of wilderness.
The trail from the parking lot is around 3.8km long and contains large height differences but is well marked and should not create issues for a person of average fitness. It is recommended to reserve about 2 hours per direction for the hike in addition to the time spent at the rock itself.
Proper hiking attire is recommended, at least proper shoes instead of riding boots will make the hike much more enjoyable. Be sure to bring enough water to drink.
The parking lot has a separate corner reserved for motorcycles and credit cards are accepted for payment.
Hike to the rock and enjoy the view.
