This short route is a must ride if you are visiting the Ylläs area.
The road to connect the two villages was planned for more than 20 years. Even a tunnel was considered. In 1998 someone suggested building a road higher on the hill so that there would be a nice scenery. After some more planning the road was finally built in 2004-2006. The distance between the ski resorts is now 28 km shorter than before.
At the South-East end of the route you can take the cabin lift to the top of the hill.
At the North-West end is the village of Äkäslompolo. The route ends (point B) at restaurant Rouhe. It's a fairly new restaurant established in 2013. The locals recommended the restaurant and I'm happy that we went there. One of the locals said "They are wizards!" and after the dinner I have to say that I agree. There is a reason why there is no salt, pepper or ketchup on the table :-)
Please note that I have no connections to the restaurant - I just loved the food.
if you ate at Rouhe, tell us if you liked the food. Otherwise, please tell something that other riders might find useful.
