Hartside Top Cafe is reached via a very steep and winding road from Penrith along the A686. It claims to be Englands highest cafe. The A686 from Penrith to Alston and then onto Hexham in Northumberland, is considered to be one of the most scenic (albeit challenging ) riding routes in England. The cafe is very popular with motorists, motorcyclists and cyclists. It is usually a windy atmospheric place, with panoramic views over the Eden Valley.
