This is the second part of the A99, A836 Latheron-Wick-Thurso route. Continue from Freswick towards John o' Groats along the A99. Stop at John o' Groats which is a separate motocache. Another place nearby worth visiting is Duncansby Head Lighthouse. At John o' Groats turn left onto the A836 towards Thurso. The road is relatively straight when heading through the small settlements of Huna and Kirkstyle. After passing Gills Bay, you can see the Island of Stroma and on a clear day the Orkney Isles. Just before entering Mey the entrance of the Castle of Mey is passed. Castle of Mey is the former home of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. The A836 passes through Dunnet and Castletown. The road is now dead-straight almost until Thurso.
Enjoy your ride in either direction!
