The A9 route is one of the most glorious is the UK, with open space and mountains either side of you for more than 100 miles. However, as this is the main route to the highlands it can get very busy, especially with lorries, during the daytime.
The second part takes you from Calvine to Aviemore. The section from Calvine round Glen Truim to Aviemore is again very pretty and very busy.
Make a stop In Dalwhinnie and visit the Dalwhinnie Distillery even if you are not a friend of whisky because they produce also handmade chocolate.
Enjoy your ride in either direction!
