The first fortress was built already in 6th century but it was destroyed by Franks. The one we are seeing now is built in 14th century. The fortress is also the gate to the "old town" of Sirmione. You can park your bike very close to the gate.
There's quite much to see: museums, many restaurants and bars, nice beaches and finally very nice walkingpaths on the north end of peninsula. These paths will give the feeling you're living in medieval times since there's only walls and towers from the old fortress. You can easily loose the time here...
The parts of the fortress are also UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Park you bike and enter the fortress.
