The A170 is a good road with smooth sweeping corners and a couple of flat out straights. The road has seperate sections. The first one is an uphill part taking up Sutton bank. Once past Sutton bank the road opens up into the fast middle section. There are corners that you can see through and the road is generally very well surfaced. After this there is a 3.5 km long downhill straight which has fantastic views across North Yorkshire on a clear day.
Enjoy this route in either direction!
