The monument was created by sculptor Fritz Røed and was unveiled by king Olav V of Norway in 1983. It is located in the beach near Stavanger City in the southwest parts of Norway. The beach is called Møllebukta.
The swords in Rock commemorate the Battle of Hafrsfjord that took place there in the year 872. In that battle King Harald Fairhair gathered all of Norway under one crown.
There's only a short walk from the parking area to the swords.
